Marcus is a D.C. native, running for DC Council on a platform of addressing Housing Affordability, Equal Access to High Quality Education and Public Safety. He is the 5th of 8 children who grew up in a working class family between Columbia Heights, NW and Congress Heights, SE. His mother is from Dakar, Senegal. His father is African-American from Columbia, South Carolina. He converted to Islam from being raised in a Baptist family. Since studying at St. Albans, UPenn and Harvard, Marcus has built a career in investment banking and real estate development while remaining a close observer of city politics.
Marcus has always been a bridge builder. Since he is the 5th of 8 children, he always steps in to find and create peace amongst people with different perspectives. Every community and group he has meet in DC has a unique vantage point. That’s part of his platform, carrying forth ideas and initiatives from different groups to make one DC community.
