The Fight Against Islamophobia and Bigotry Won Yesterday!

We are thrilled to see that Roy Moore defeated in yesterday’s Alabama Senate race. This is a man who has exhibited extreme bigotry, poor character, and outrageous behavior throughout his career.

In 2006 when Keith Ellison became the first Muslim US congressman, Moore wrote an op-ed titled “Muslim Ellison should not sit in Congress”

Moore continued: “In 1943, we would never have allowed a member of Congress to take their oath on Mein Kampf, or someone in the 1950s to swear allegiance to the ‘Communist Manifesto.’ Congress has the authority and should act to prohibit Ellison from taking the congressional oath today!”

He is not alone in his hatred and Islamophobia. It was due to the ground effort and field organizing that helped his opponent Doug Jones take this historic and improbable win. Every vote counts, but it was the African American vote that contributed to this historic result. Emgage is studying and taking notes on how we mobilize our community to do what Alabama has done in 2018 to shut down these bigoted voices. We will need your help. Join the movement.
